Who we are

Our mission is to enable people who have a disability or are disadvantaged to improve their quality of life by providing innovative world-class education and support for them and their support network.

Since being established in 1997, Life Activities has grown to become a well respected organisation that pushes the boundaries, always seeking ways to improve services to better meet people’s needs in cost effective ways.

We focus on enhancing a person’s life skills, support network and living environment and advocate for positive community experiences for people with disability or disadvantage. We believe those who have a more difficult life than most should be given support to achieve their goals and dreams.

The outcomes we have achieved through our core programs have attracted recognition at all levels – local to international.

What we do

Life Activities looks beyond the person’s disability, trying to see, as fully as possible, what life is really like from another’s perspective. The environment, relationships and opportunities available to the individual are considered from a holistic viewpoint.

Our core programs are designed to be flexible and individually tailored to the individual needs of each person. Everyone succeeds in a different way - each success is an important step on the path to improving quality of life.

We also offer a professional training service for the disability and health sectors, a strategic alliance program for the business sector and a variety of community education initiatives which create greater community awareness of issues relating to disability and disadvantage.

Our Core Programs

Life Activities Community Living Program helps people with a disability realise their dream of living more independently within the community. People learn everyday living skills including shopping; cooking; budgeting; using public transport; home maintenance; goal setting; time management and many more. We also help people to develop and enrich sustaining relationships – an essential part of meaningful community living.

Life Activities Life Consultancy Group supports people with disability who are experiencing difficulty coping with life’s challenges to grow, change and develop new skills and maximize the overall quality of their life. The program provides creative solutions, education and practical assistance to family members, carers and staff associated with the person with disability.

Life Activities conducts thorough and holistic assessments by talking to all those involved, as well as interviewing and observing the person with disability in their own environment. With this information, Life Activities’ multidisciplinary team of staff work together to develop creative and practical intervention strategies with the aim of changing challenging behaviours, teaching new skills, reducing frustrations, and assisting the person and their support network to solve the current problems being experienced.

Life Activities Gambling Support Program is a unique program which assists people with a disability or mental illness who also have a gambling problem. Australians have a reputation for liking to have a ‘punt’ but for some people, gambling can get out of control and take over their lives. This impacts not only on the individual but on their family and friends as well. Life Activities offers holistic support services including counseling and guidance for individuals to help them break the gambling cycle, as well as education and awareness for their support networks. We also widely consult with the disability sector and gambling industry about detecting the warning signs of individuals they work with or have as customers.

Life Activities Personal Support Program aims to assist individuals who are disadvantaged overcome personal barriers which stop them from participating more fully within their community. Achieving employment is a priority for all people, and this is a highly desirable outcome for people participating in the program. However the program also recognizes that helping participants to be more actively engaged in their community is important. We provide a comprehensive range of support services for people who have non-vocational barriers to employment or require assistance to participate more fully in the social life of the community. Representatives from Centrelink determine the eligibility of entry into the program prior to people being referred to Life Activities to commence the program.

People living with disability occasionally need additional support to keep going when life gets tough.

Life Activities Life Solutions Program offers an extra ‘helping hand’ to the person affected by a disability and/or those who care for them in the form of short term relief. Support can include: short term respite for carers; specific purchases to assist the person with disability cope with their situation better; counseling services for grief and loss, behavioral problems and relationship issues and teaching the person with disability everyday living skills to create greater independence. The Life Solutions Program works hard to find practical solutions to make situations more manageable.
