Everybody loves movies but there are some of us that are completely obsessed by
them and Mark is one of those people. On average he watches around 400 movies a
year and his social life is often determined by release dates of anticipated
films. If he is not watching movies he is reading about them in magazines,
researching upcoming films online or watching At the Movies or The Movie Show
on television. “I still get excited each time I go to the cinema. I usually sit
dead centre in what is normally the least popular seats in the house – 3 to 4
rows from the front. Sitting this close allows me to become one with the movie
and I just let the screen absorb me. It also means there are minimal
distractions as there are very few people around you and never anyone in front,
so it feels like your own private screening each time.”
“When reviewing films I firstly look for a good story and also originality - if
the director, cast and the rest of the filmmaking team get it right from there
than nothing can really go wrong. I also try to keep the target audience in
mind and not get too personal with my opinions. A few of my favourite films
include American Beauty, Amelie, The Shawshank Redemption and Life is
Beautiful.”
