Toddler dies in house fire - Muswellbrook

Police remain at the scene of a house fire in Muswellbrook, which claimed the life of a three-year-old boy last night.
About 11pm, police and fire brigades were called to the house on Wollombi Road after reports from neighbours it was well-alight.
A man, aged 23, and his two children, aged four and one, had escaped from the house, however his other child had not.
Fire Brigades officers extinguished the blaze before finding the body of the three-year-old boy inside.
The father and his two children were taken to Muswellbrook Hospital, were they were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The man is also receiving treatment to burns he suffered as a result of trying to re-enter the home to save his boy.
The children’s mother was not at home at the time and has been contacted.
The scene is currently being examined by forensic officers but at this stage the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
